A Vintage Surprise: Building My First Non-LEGO Classic Car

I didn’t even know you could get cars like this! For Christmas, I got a vintage-style car building kit—it’s like LEGO, but it’s from a different company. The instructions and box say the model is called F-C9822, and the brand is either MOC Factory or Building Boat. I had never heard of them before, but now I’m glad I have!

The build was really detailed—more than I expected—and the finished car is bigger than I thought it would be too. That’s why I’m in the last photo, so you can see the size compared to me! It’s not huge, but it’s a good, solid size for a display model, and I think it looks really cool.

This is what the model looked like at the start. It kind of reminded me of a sleigh with four seats, before anything else had been added. Even though it didn’t look like a full car yet, it was already clear it was going to be something vintage and cool!

About a Third Done

By this stage, the model was really starting to come together. You can see the main shape and the bottom of the seats forming. This is when it really began looking like an old-fashioned car, and I got excited about finishing it.

Two-Thirds Done

Here’s the completed model—and me holding it, so you can see the actual size! It’s not a massive build, but it’s a good, solid display size and has tons of great little details. I think it looks amazing.

The Finished Car (with Me!)

The instructions were harder than LEGO’s—some parts weren’t quite as clear, and we had to double-check a few steps. But I still managed to finish it without too much help. It was a really fun build, and I didn’t expect such a cool car from a brand that isn’t LEGO.

I don’t think LEGO usually makes vintage cars in this kind of detail, so I wanted to share this for anyone else who loves old cars like I do. You might not know these kits exist—but they do! Thanks Mamgu for the awesome present!

⭐ Ratings (Out of 10):

🛠️ Instructions: ★★★☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ (5.5/10)
The instructions weren’t as clear as LEGO ones. Some parts were tricky to understand, and we had to slow down a few times to double-check the steps.

🧩 How Tricky It Was: ★★★★☆☆☆☆☆☆ (4.5/10)
It wasn’t super hard, but definitely a bit harder than most LEGO sets I’ve done. The instructions made it more difficult than it needed to be.

🎲 Fun to Build: ★★★★★★☆☆☆☆ (6/10)
It was fun, especially once the shape started showing. It’s not my favourite build ever, but still pretty cool.

🚗 Finished Look: ★★★★★★★★★★ (10/10)
Once it was done, the car looked awesome! It’s full of vintage detail and looks like something from the 1920s or 30s—perfect for someone like me who loves classic cars. I just wish it was big enough for me to ride in! That would make it even better.
